Hannes H. Gissurarson

Professor Emeritus of Political Philosophy at the University of Iceland and Political Philosopher

Hannes H. Gissurarson is Professor Emeritus of Political Philosophy at the University of Iceland. His D.Phil. at Oxford University was on Hayek’s political philosophy. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Mont Pelerin Society and of the Board of Overseers of the Central Bank of Iceland as well as a Visiting Scholar at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, LUISS in Rome, UCLA, and other universities and institutes. He has written more than twenty books and reports in English, Icelandic, and Swedish, including Twenty-Four Conservative-Liberal Thinkers in two volumes in 2020. In 2026, he edited and introduced an anthology of 480 pages, Conservative-Liberal Thought in the Nordic Countries, with selections from Snorri Sturluson, Anders Chydenius, N. F. S. Grundtvig, Gustav Cassel, Trygve Hoff, and many other Nordic thinkers, where he contributed an Introduction of 250 pages.
